AMISH COUNTRY – HOLMES COUNTY AND VICINITY

Although Ohio’s Amish live the simple life, traveling the country roads by horse and buggy, visitors to Amish country can still see the sights from the comfort of their cars. Large, white-painted farmhouses are scattered across the green fields. Rows of handmade dresses and work pants hang to dry in the sun. Barefoot boys wearing suspenders stroll alongside the road. In nearby Berlin you can sample great Amish cooking, tour the many shops and enjoy the beautiful countryside.

BIKING TRAILS

Kokosing Gap Trail - 13.2 mile paved trail from Mt. Vernon to Danville. This shady trail runs along the Kokosing River, through a wooded ravine, wetlands and scenic farmland.

18.3 mile paved trail from Butler to Mansfield runs through picturesque farmland and crosses the Clear Fork Mohican river five times

MID OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE -LEXINGTON

This 2.4–mile road course boasts six national and international motorsports events during its season. Fans can roam the 330-acre facility, spread a blanket on one of the grassy mounds, and enjoy the races.

MOHICAN STATE PARK AND FOREST

Mohican State Park and the adjacent State Forest are located in the heart of Mohican Country...Ohio's best vacation region. The park is comprised of 1,110 acres with 5 miles of the scenic Clear Fork Branch of the Mohican River running through it. The Mohican Memorial State Forest surrounds the park with 4,795 acres. The recreational opportunities include fishing, hiking, hunting, and bridle trails.

FIRE TOWER CLIMB – MOHICAN STATE FOREST

Climb 80 feet to the top of a restored fire tower for a panoramic view of the Mohican area. One of only 7 towers remaining in Ohio, this is a must see for all area visitors

LYONS FALLS – MOHICAN STATE PARK

Lyons Falls is a 50' rock cave with a falls over it. John Chapman, immortalized as Johnny Appleseed, frequented the region during the 1800's, caring for his apple tree nurseries. His name and the date, carved in the wall of Lyons Falls, were an attraction for years. Unfortunately, the etchings have been obliterated with the passage of time. The trail is right next to the Clear Fork river with beautiful views of the gorge to the right and the river to the left.

OHIO STATE REFORMATORY – MANSFIELD

With the cornerstone laid in 1886, this castle-like prison was designed as a reformatory for young offenders. Abandoned in 1990, the original cellblocks and administration areas remain intact. Four major motion pictures have been filmed on location, including “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Air Force One.” Listed on the national Register of Historic Places, tour admissions are applied directly to the preservation of the building. KINGWOOD CENTER MANSION AND GARDENS - MANSFIELD

Free admission. Kingwood is the 47-acre former estate of Charles K. King. The grounds are renowned for both their historic significance and the brilliant floral displays of the new gardens. The French Provincial mansion contains many rooms decorated with Mr. King’s original furnishings and one of Ohio’s outstanding horticultural libraries. An elegant greenhouse features year-round displays and plant sales. The extensive grounds offer opportunities for hiking and quiet isolation from vehicles.

LIVING BIBLE MUSEUM - MANSFIELD

Witness the Holy Bible come to life before your very eyes. Fifty-nine life-sized dioramas accompanied with special effects and an audio text will provide you with an experience you will never forget. Also included: Miracles of the Old Testament, Ohio’s only wax museum, and the Christian Martyrs. A collection of rare Bibles, woodcarvings, and American Votive Folk Art are now on display. MOHICAN 100 MILE MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE - June 3rd


One of the premier bicycle races in Ohio. One hundred mile loop consisting of 11,000 + ft. of climbing along mostly singletrack, doubletrack and dirt roads spanning 4 counties through some of the most remote and scenic areas in the rolling hills of Mohican Country.


WINE FESTIVAL - JUNE  10th

NORTH CENTRAL SAFE BOATING & FISHING FESTIVAL JUNE 10th

The North Central Ohio Safe Boating and Fishing Festival will be held Saturday, June 11 from 12:00 pm to 5:30 pm at Pleasant Hill Lake Park. Free admission to the park with free boat rides, kayaks, sailboats, fishing for kids, boat show, safety displays and door prices. The first 100 children under 12 will get a free lifejacket (PFD)

VINTAGE GRAND PRIX - MID OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE JUNE 23rd - 25th     

The SVRA returns to Mid-Ohio for its 32nd straight appearance. Gentlemen drivers racing classic, history-filled cars on a classic, history-filled race track is as beautiful and timeless as motorsports can get. If the cars are moving too fast for you to appreciate, you can a better look at them in the open paddocks or view some non-racers in a pair of car shows this weekend. One manufacturer with a longer history than vintage cars at Mid-Ohio is Mini. Last year, 40 cars were on the grid with championship contenders throughout providing fans of all ages with excitement that rivals any other form of sports entertainment in the country – all for a good cause with proceeds going to the Columbus-based Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The season finale for racing at Mid-Ohio presents a complete spectacle Columbus Children’s Choir and Nationwide Children’s Hospital patient champions participating, as well as autograph sessions and more.

Our small town hosts a big fair that is truly an old-fashioned, family-oriented event in downtown Loudonville, Ohio. Includes five days of free admission, free entertainment, free exhibits, free livestock shows and auctions, free power pulls, rides, wide variety of food and much, much more. Begins each day at 12 noon and until 10:00 p.m. each night. Parts of State routes 3 and 60 are closed during the event.
